Golden City #2: Agra

Image
Many people say that Paris is the city of love but I beg to differ. I think the real city of love is Agra. There are two places that you must see when you go to Agra- Red Fort of Agra and Taj Mahal. These two places have incredible history and incredible love stories along with it. Agra is a Mughal is city that had 6 rulers. One of them was named Akbar. Akbar is known as one of the greatest rulers in the Mughal dynasty. He chose to build the Red Fort after his rise to power and used it as a military point as well as a palace. He was married to woman named Jodha who was from a different part of India. This is where the love comes into play. Because Jodha was from a different part of India, Akbar had some of the architecture of her home brought to the Fort. That is why some of the architecture of the Fort is from Rajasthan. The love story of Jodha and Akbar is wonderful and if you want to know more about it you should watch the Hindi movie called Jodha Akbar... one of my favorite...

Golden City #1: Delhi

Delhi (pronounced Dhileeeeee) is a city that is filled with rich history and culture. Probably one of the most famous cities in India and known to be the greenest capital in the world, Delhi is most famous for 5 things. 1. Monuments There are over 1300 monuments in Delhi, and no possible way to view them all in three days. So we had to pick and choose. These are my favorite monuments that we visited. The first place that we went was Qutub Minar. Qutub Minar is a victory tower that Qutub- ud- Din Aibak, the first Muslim king to rule over India, built after defeating Delhi's last Hindu kingdom. Qutub Minar is beautiful and it was so cool to get to explore an area that was built in 1193. Humayan was a Mughal emperor who died in 1569. His wife was the one who had his tomb commissioned and was the first women to ever create a tomb for her husband. Humayan's tomb is also called Baby Taj because it is known to be the inspiration for the Taj Mahal. The tomb sits in...

Lion City

Something about my family is that we love to travel. This winter break we decided to take the trip that we have been wanting and planning to take for 12 years. In my 18 years of life- I have never gone sight seeing in India and so we decided to take the trip. To start our journey off we start in Singapore. A very famous figure in Singapore is a Merlion. A Merlion is a combination of a lion and a fish. Singapore used to be called Singapora before a king went hunting and thought that he saw a lion and decided to rename the country to Singapore, which means lion city. The tail represents the fact that Singapore used to be primarily used for fishing. This Merlion has become a national figure for the country of Singapore, and a very famous tourist sight... which meant that we had to check it out! Another very famous part of Singapore is called Little India. I bet you are wondering why there is Little India in Singapore? That is because when the British were trying t...

It is such an awesome way to start the day... and the waffles are also pretty good. 2. Roommates are a wonderful thing It is so awesome to have people around who care about you. They even text to find out where you are when they haven't seen you all day. 3. Best Friends are the ones that your texts say: "On my way", "Here", " Where are you", "Come Over" I love my friends who I can just text them and be like what are you doing and they say nothing and then you go okay, I'm coming over. 4.
