Lion City
Something about my family is that we love to travel. This winter break we decided to take the trip that we have been wanting and planning to take for 12 years. In my 18 years of life- I have never gone sight seeing in India and so we decided to take the trip.
To start our journey off we start in Singapore.
A very famous figure in Singapore is a Merlion. A Merlion is a combination of a lion and a fish. Singapore used to be called Singapora before a king went hunting and thought that he saw a lion and decided to rename the country to Singapore, which means lion city. The tail represents the fact that Singapore used to be primarily used for fishing. This Merlion has become a national figure for the country of Singapore, and a very famous tourist sight... which meant that we had to check it out!
Another very famous part of Singapore is called Little India. I bet you are wondering why there is Little India in Singapore? That is because when the British were trying to colonize Singapore they needed workers to build buildings and roads and decided to use Indian convicts. I actually felt like I was in India because of the noise, sights, smells, and even dirtiness. This made me so excited to go to India.
The buildings and architecture in Singapore are amazing. Singapore is not a very big country and so to fit all the people who live in Singapore, they must build high into the sky and down below the ground. I am in such awe over all the cool designs of the skyscrapers.
Singapore is clean, green, and lush. However, you cannot grow food in Singapore because there is no land for farming and agriculture. The greenness and the lushness are shown in the multitude of gardens and trees around the country. There is even a garden for orchids, which is the national flower of Singapore.
Something that my mom was told that we had to check out in Singapore was the Night Safari and the River Safari. On these Safaris, you get to see many different types of animals. My favorite animal at the River Safari is the squirrel monkeys. I love the monkeys because I was able to get very close to them. But, be warned that not all people are nice to animals. There are some kids who will scream at the monkeys or try and hit them and in my opinion, that is not okay.
Our reward after such a hot day on a safari... Orange Popsicles. These are by far the greatest popsicles in the entire world.
Our trip in Singapore was awesome. It was two days spent in a very clean and green place. However, after those two days we were ready to move on to Delhi, India.

Have a great time! At 30 degrees in KC, the greens look greener. Girish
