Eat. Pray. Love
Sometimes when people have a midlife crisis they decide to reexamine their life and change things or take a trip. A movie released a couple years ago that was based off of the book Eat Pray Love, and many people after reading the book or watching the movie, decided that they wanted to have a trip like this. I admit, I am guilty of that. India was my Eat. Pray. Love trip, and I never would have expected that.
Eat
As I mentioned before, I love Indian food. If you ever want to eat Indian food, please hit me up. So being able to spend a month eating Indian food was awesome and delicious and I was very content. The flavors are incredible and it was wonderful to eat food with spices and flavor after eating at a dining hall for 4.5 months. I got to eat all of my favorite foods and drink tea, laasi, and coconut water. This was probably the happiest I have ever been with food. However, I did not get to eat my last week in Indian because I ended up getting a viral infection that caused me to worship the porcelain god from both ends and lose 10 pounds. Mom, you the real MVP for washing puke out of my hair.
Pray
I identify as a Hindu for my religious beliefs. Many people in India also are of the Hindu faith, and that is why there are so many temples. We visited many temples and when I was there I had a moment where I truly felt connected to my faith. I honestly want to learn more and more about Hinduism because I realized that this is something that is important to me. Sometimes I have my doubts, but now I understand that this is the way that I can understand why things happen. I have fallen in love with my religion and I am really happy about that.
Love
Now I know, you are probably wondering who is this boy that Esha is in love with and what happened. In fact, it is not a boy. I fell in love with myself and who I am as a person. For many years I have struggled on and off about loving myself and who I am as a person. I hated things and wished that I could change who I was, I wished that I didn't laugh the way I laugh, I wished that I reacted in different ways. But something changed in India. I learned to love myself. I learned that although you don't talk about the details, your siblings really do know you. Vinay and I were taking a quiz on buzz feed one night, and I realized that we know each other so well, that we can take the quiz as each other. I got to spend time with my favorite person- my nani( maternal grandmother.) I got to see my 2nd cousin who I absolutely adore. I got to spend 20 days with my parents. I got to see where I come from and how that has shaped me into the person who I am today.
I am eternally grateful that I got to spend 26 days in India. This trip is probably my favorite that I have ever taken and I have learned so many things not only about India, but about myself. I could not be any more blessed.
